同濟(jì)公共衛(wèi)生學(xué)院 的歷史可溯源至上個(gè)世紀(jì)1907年寶隆博士創(chuàng)辦上海德文醫(yī)學(xué)堂時(shí)，即有由德國(guó)江哥斯博士講授公共衛(wèi)生學(xué)課程，后于1913年開(kāi)設(shè)衛(wèi)生學(xué)館，其后雖迭經(jīng)歷史 變遷，衛(wèi)生學(xué)館仍以它頑強(qiáng)的生命力保存下來(lái)并發(fā)展著。1951年，全國(guó)高等學(xué)校院系調(diào)整，隨醫(yī)學(xué)院由上海內(nèi)遷至武漢。1953年，正式招收衛(wèi)生學(xué)專(zhuān)業(yè)本科 生暨建立衛(wèi)生系，是全國(guó)最早成立的6個(gè)衛(wèi)生系之一。1986年更名為同濟(jì)醫(yī)科大學(xué)公共衛(wèi)生學(xué)院，2000年5月高校合并，華中科技大學(xué)組建，更名為華中科 技大學(xué)同濟(jì)醫(yī)學(xué)院公共衛(wèi)生學(xué)院。

 

 

 

 

學(xué)院現(xiàn)有6個(gè)系，1個(gè)研究所，1個(gè)教學(xué)實(shí)驗(yàn)中心：流行病與衛(wèi)生統(tǒng)計(jì)學(xué)系、勞動(dòng)衛(wèi)生與環(huán)境衛(wèi)生學(xué)系、兒少衛(wèi)生與婦幼保健學(xué)系、營(yíng)養(yǎng)與食品衛(wèi)生學(xué)系、衛(wèi)生毒理學(xué) 系、社會(huì)醫(yī)學(xué)與衛(wèi)生事業(yè)管理系；環(huán)境保護(hù)部武漢環(huán)境醫(yī)學(xué)研究所；預(yù)防醫(yī)學(xué)教學(xué)實(shí)驗(yàn)中心。擁有具備國(guó)家評(píng)價(jià)資質(zhì)中心3個(gè)：農(nóng)藥毒理評(píng) 價(jià)研究中心（四階段評(píng)價(jià)）、保健食品功能學(xué)檢測(cè)中心、環(huán)境影響評(píng)價(jià)中心（乙級(jí)證書(shū)）。擁有校內(nèi)外跨學(xué)科研究中心2個(gè)：同濟(jì)心理衛(wèi)生研究中心和傷害預(yù)防與控 制研究中心。

 

 

 

 

學(xué)院學(xué)科建設(shè)歷經(jīng)滄桑五十余年，一次一個(gè)歷史性的跨躍、一程一座豐碑。1981年，獲首批碩士、博士學(xué)位授予權(quán)；1989年，環(huán)境衛(wèi)生學(xué)（環(huán)境醫(yī)學(xué)）被批準(zhǔn) 為國(guó)家重點(diǎn)學(xué)科；1995年，建公共衛(wèi)生與預(yù)防醫(yī)學(xué)一級(jí)學(xué)科博士后流動(dòng)站；1997年，國(guó)家重點(diǎn)學(xué)科點(diǎn)環(huán)境衛(wèi)生學(xué)科和校級(jí)重點(diǎn)學(xué)科勞動(dòng)衛(wèi)生與職業(yè)醫(yī)學(xué)，通 過(guò)“211工程”重點(diǎn)學(xué)科建設(shè)項(xiàng)目評(píng)審；1998年，獲公共衛(wèi)生與預(yù)防醫(yī)學(xué)一級(jí)學(xué)科博士學(xué)位授予權(quán)；2000年，設(shè)長(zhǎng)江學(xué)者特聘教授崗位；2001年，學(xué) 科調(diào)整后的勞動(dòng)衛(wèi)生與環(huán)境衛(wèi)生學(xué)學(xué)科點(diǎn)再次躋身于國(guó)家級(jí)重點(diǎn)學(xué)科建設(shè)行列；2002年，被批準(zhǔn)為首批公共衛(wèi)生碩士專(zhuān)業(yè)學(xué)位（MPH）教育試點(diǎn)單 位；2002年，批準(zhǔn)建國(guó)家環(huán)境保護(hù)環(huán)境與健康重點(diǎn)實(shí)驗(yàn)室；2003年，批準(zhǔn)建環(huán)境與健康教育部重點(diǎn)實(shí)驗(yàn)室；2004年，學(xué)院“環(huán)境與健康創(chuàng)新研究平臺(tái)” 批準(zhǔn)為國(guó)家“985工程”項(xiàng)目建設(shè)單位；2007年，兒少衛(wèi)生與婦幼保健學(xué)科點(diǎn)獲國(guó)家重點(diǎn)培育學(xué)科資格；2008年，公共衛(wèi)生與預(yù)防醫(yī)學(xué)學(xué)科，被評(píng)為湖北 省一級(jí)重點(diǎn)學(xué)科；勞動(dòng)衛(wèi)生與環(huán)境衛(wèi)生學(xué)科，被評(píng)為湖北省高校優(yōu)勢(shì)學(xué)科并設(shè)湖北省“楚天學(xué)者”崗位；2010年，獲批省部共建“環(huán)境衛(wèi)生學(xué)國(guó)家重點(diǎn)實(shí)驗(yàn)室培 育基地。

 

 

 

 

學(xué)院師資力量雄厚，現(xiàn)有教師85人。其中，教授31人、副教授35人、博士生導(dǎo)師33人、碩士生導(dǎo)師67人、講座及客座教授20余人。在教師中，擁有“長(zhǎng)江學(xué)者特聘教授”2人、“973”首席科學(xué)家1人、教育部新世紀(jì)百千萬(wàn)人才11人、國(guó)務(wù)院學(xué)位委員會(huì)學(xué)科評(píng)審組成員1人。

 

 

 

 

學(xué)院有較強(qiáng)的綜合辦學(xué)實(shí)力。設(shè)有：預(yù)防醫(yī)學(xué)專(zhuān)業(yè)和婦幼衛(wèi)生、衛(wèi)生檢驗(yàn)檢疫、衛(wèi)生統(tǒng)計(jì)、環(huán)境醫(yī)學(xué)4個(gè)后期分化專(zhuān)業(yè)，形成集全日制本科、碩士、專(zhuān)業(yè)碩士、博士、 博士后多層次的辦學(xué)格局。學(xué)院預(yù)防醫(yī)學(xué)專(zhuān)業(yè)是湖北省品牌專(zhuān)業(yè)和教育部特色專(zhuān)業(yè)建設(shè)單位，2009年預(yù)防醫(yī)學(xué)實(shí)驗(yàn)教學(xué)中心被評(píng)為國(guó)家級(jí)示范中心建設(shè)單位?，F(xiàn) 有國(guó)家精品課程二門(mén)，省級(jí)精品課程二門(mén)，校級(jí)精品課程三門(mén)。學(xué)院始終堅(jiān)持以學(xué)生為本、求真務(wù)實(shí)，不斷加大教學(xué)改革的力度，努力提高教學(xué)質(zhì)量。學(xué)院每年在校 本科生約600～700人，在校碩士300余人，在校博士120余人。以“夢(mèng)飛舞”文化藝術(shù)節(jié)和“大學(xué)生課外科技創(chuàng)新基地”為載體的大學(xué)生素質(zhì)拓展平臺(tái)已 建立。通過(guò)平臺(tái)，學(xué)生展現(xiàn)自我、激昂青春，內(nèi)塑精神、外樹(shù)形象，提高綜合素質(zhì)。近幾年，有4篇博士論文獲國(guó)家百篇優(yōu)秀博士論文提名獎(jiǎng)，有13篇博士論文獲 湖北省優(yōu)秀博士論文。先后有18名本科生獲省級(jí)獎(jiǎng)，其中湖北省 “挑戰(zhàn)杯” 大學(xué)生課外科技作品競(jìng)賽金獎(jiǎng)1項(xiàng)、一等獎(jiǎng)1項(xiàng)、二等獎(jiǎng)2項(xiàng)、三等獎(jiǎng)2項(xiàng)，本科生在國(guó)內(nèi)核心期刊上發(fā)表第一作者論文十余篇。近八年，本科畢業(yè)生一次就業(yè)率達(dá) 90%以上，其中考研錄取率為30%～45%；研究生就業(yè)率95%～100%。

 

 

 

 

學(xué)院瞄準(zhǔn)預(yù)防醫(yī)學(xué)國(guó)際前沿研究領(lǐng)域，積極開(kāi)展科學(xué)研究。近五年（2006～2010年）新批準(zhǔn)各類(lèi)縱向課題604項(xiàng)（如：“973”項(xiàng)目、國(guó)家自然科學(xué)基金 重點(diǎn)項(xiàng)目），橫向課題624項(xiàng)，到位科研經(jīng)費(fèi)近億元?，F(xiàn)每年SCI收錄論文為80-100篇(其中國(guó)際頂級(jí)期刊8-10篇/年，如：Nat Genet/IF36.4、J Clin Oncol/IF18.9、Circulation/IF14.4、Am J Epidemiol/IF5.8、Environ Health Perspect/IF6.1等)。近5年獲省部級(jí)成果獎(jiǎng)11項(xiàng)(一等獎(jiǎng)2項(xiàng)、二等獎(jiǎng)6項(xiàng))；發(fā)表出版物及專(zhuān)著57部。

 

 

 

 

學(xué)院始終堅(jiān)持對(duì)外開(kāi)放，注重發(fā)展國(guó)際間的學(xué)術(shù)交流與合作，先后與德國(guó)、美國(guó)、加拿大、澳大利亞、荷蘭、瑞典、日本、香港等10多個(gè)國(guó)家和地區(qū)的大學(xué)、研究所 建立友好合作關(guān)系，開(kāi)展廣泛的學(xué)術(shù)交流和科研合作。有20多位海內(nèi)外知名學(xué)者被聘為學(xué)院名譽(yù)教授、客座教授和兼職教授，派出各類(lèi)出國(guó)留學(xué)人員100余人 次。

An Introduction to the School of Public Health Tongji Medical College

 

 

 

 

The history of the School of Public Health, Tongji Medical College can be traced back to 1907, when Dr. Bolon founded the Shanghai German Medical School and Dr. Junges from Germany started to teach the course of public hygiene. In 1913, the School of Hygiene was established and continued to preserve and develop with indomitable vitality even after many historical changes. In 1951, the school was relocated from Shanghai to Wuhan along with the Tongji Medical College, following the reorientation of higher educational institutions. In 1953, it officially admitted undergraduates majored in hygiene and the Department of Hygiene was established, which was one of the first six in China. In 1986, it was renamed as Public Health College of Tongji Medical University. In May 2000, it was incorporated into Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and the college changed its name to the present “School of Public Health, Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology”.

 

 

 

 

The school has 6 departments: Epidemiology and Biostatistics; Occupational and Environmental Health; Maternal and Childhood Health; Nutrition and Food Health; Toxicology; and Social Medicine and Health Care Management. It has two research institutes: Institute of Environmental Medicine under Ministry of Environmental Protection at Wuhan and Institute of Social Medicine under Ministry of Public Health, and one Teaching and Experimental Laboratory Center of Preventive Medicine, and three National Qualification and Quality Evaluation Centers including the Evaluation and Research Center of Pesticide Toxicities, the Inspection Center of the Effects of Health-Care Food and the Evaluation Center of Environmental Influence, and two multi-discipline research centers: Tongji Research Center of Psychological Health and Research Center of Injury Prevention and Control.

 

 

 

 

Over the last 50 years, the school has come through a history with enormous hardships, overcome numerous difficulties in the road to exploring medical science, and accumulating historical milestones and monuments of scholarship. These include: it was the one of the first institutions to be accredited to confer master’s and doctoral degrees in 1981; environmental health was approved as the national key discipline under Ministry of Education in 1989; post-doctoral program of the first-class discipline public health and preventive medicine was set up in 1995; both the environmental health (the national key discipline) and the occupational medicine (the university key discipline) qualified for the key disciplines of “211 Project” in 1997; it was accredited to confer the doctoral degree in the first-class discipline public health and preventive medicine in 1998; it was selected to be one of the host institutions for the prestigious visiting professorship with the title of “Yangtze Scholars” in 2000; the new combined discipline occupational hygiene and environmental heath was approved again as national key discipline in 2001; it was accredited to be one of the first schools in history to award the master’s degree in public health (MPH) in 2002; it was approved to establish national key laboratory of environmental protection and health in 2002; it was approved to establish key laboratory of environment and health under Ministry of Education in 2003; “Innovative Research Platform of Environmental Health” qualified for the national “985 Project” in 2004; maternal and childhood health was approved as national key training discipline in 2007; public health and preventive medicine was approved as first-class key discipline of Hubei Province in 2008; occupational hygiene and environmental heath was approved as preponderant discipline among universities of higher learning in Hubei Province, and it was selected to be one of the host institutions for the professorship of “Chutian Scholar”; it was approved to set up training base for national key laboratory of environmental health by Hubei province and Ministry of Education in 2010.

 

 

 

 

Our school has a highly competitive faculty. The core is composed of  Million Talents toward the 21st Century, Excellent Talents toward the 21st Century and doctoral supervisors. The school has 88 faculty members, including 8 New Century Excellent Talents, 32 full professors, 33 associate professors, 26 doctoral supervisors and 63 master’s supervisors.

 

 

 

 

Our school has successful and extensive experience in teaching and administration. It possesses 4 specialties: preventive medicine, maternal and childhood health, health inspection and quarantine, biostatistics and environmental medicine. A multi-level education system composed of full-time undergraduates, master students, master students of public health, doctoral students and post doctorates has formed. Preventive medicine is the “brand” discipline of Hubei Province and it’s under special development by Ministry of Education. The experimental and research center of preventative medicine was set as a national demonstration center. Many first-class courses have been instructed in our school, 2 at the national level, 2 at the provincial level and 3 at the university level. The school adheres to the principle of student-orientated, seeking truth and practicing and reinforces teaching reform continuously to improve the quality of teaching. It has an enrollment of 600-700 undergraduates, 300 master students and 120 doctoral students. The students are educated for all-round development by participating in the “Dream Dancing” art festival and the center of extracurricular innovation of science and technology for undergraduate students. Recently, 4 doctoral dissertations were nominated as national one hundred excellent doctoral dissertations, and 13 doctoral dissertations were awarded excellent doctoral dissertations of Hubei Province. 18 undergraduate students received awards at the provincial level. These include 1 gold medal, 1 first-class award, 2 second-class awards and 2 third-class awards from the “Challenge Cup” of extracurricular scientific works contest for undergraduate in Hubei Province. The undergraduates have published more than 10 papers in national core periodicals as first authors. Over the past eight years, the first-time employment rate for undergraduates has passed 90%, of which the rate of admission to the master’s program is approximately 30%～45%. The employment rate for graduate students is about 95%～100%.

 

 

 

 

The school aims at the most advanced international research areas in preventive medicine field, actively develops scientific research programs. During the past five years (2006-2010), the school has been awarded 604 government-funded longitudinal projects (such as “973 Project” and key projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation) and 624 enterprise-funded latitudinal project, and has obtained nearly 100 million Yuan for the research funding. The school publishes 40～50 papers in SCI database each year, which include 6-10 papers published in top international journals such as Journal of Clinical Oncology, Circulation, and Environmental Health Perspectives, and published 250 papers each year in national core periodicals. It has won 11 prizes for excellent researches at ministry or provincial levels which include 2 first-class prizes and 6 second-class prizes, and has published 57 textbooks and other treatises in the past five years.

 

 

 

 

Our school perseveres in the opening-up policy by developing international scientific communication and collaboration. We have established friendly academic relationship and conducted collaborative research projects with more than 10 universities and research institutes in a series of such countries and areas as German, the United States, Canada, Australia, Holland, Sweden, Japan, Hong Kong, and etc. Honorary professorships, guest professorships and part-time professorships have been conferred to more than 20 national and foreign distinguished experts and scholars. Over 100 people have been sent abroad for long or short term visiting and study.
